DENTAL VENEERS

Veneers

Unlike a crown, which covers the entire tooth, a veneer is a thin shell that is placed over the front or visible parts of the tooth. There are two types of veneers, ceramic veneers that are produced by a dental laboratory and resin-based composite veneers. With proper care, your new veneers will greatly improve your appearance and increase your confidence for years to come.

What Types of Problems Do Dental Veneers Fix?

  • Teeth that are worn down
  • Chipped or broken teeth
  • Teeth that are discolored—either because of root canal treatment; stains from tetracycline or other drugs, excessive fluoride or other causes; or the presence of large resin fillings that have discolored the tooth
  • Teeth that are misaligned, uneven, or irregularly shaped
  • Teeth with gaps between them

What advantages do veneers offer?

  • They provide a natural tooth appearance.
  • Gum tissue works well with porcelain.
  • Veneers are stain resistant.
  • Porcelain veneers can makes dark teeth appear whiter.
  • Veneers offer a conservative approach to changing a tooth's color and shape

Do they require special care and how Long Do Dental Veneers Last?

Dental veneers do not require any special care. Good oral hygiene practices, including brushing, flossing, and rinsing with an antiseptic mouthwash as you normally would, are still required.

Even though porcelain veneers resist stains, your dentist may want to avoid stain-causing foods and beverages (for example, coffee, tea, or red wine).

Veneers generally last between 7 and 15 years. After this time, the veneers would need to be replaced.
